About this event

Queer Scouts Seattle Camp 2023 will be held in person on Sunday, July 9 - Tuesday, July 11, 2023! Please read the information below before registering.

Location

Camp is at the Kanaskat-Palmer group site. We will send you the exact address and directions to the site after you register.

The site is a 40-60 minute drive from Seattle. There is parking on site and in an overflow site. Please fill out the carpool survey in your registration email.

The group camp site has multiple sites for tents as well as two three-wall shelters (Adirondack shelters) that sleep 16 people total (8 per shelter). You will need to bring your own bedding (camp mattress, sleeping bag, etc.)

If you plan on sleeping in a tent, hammock, etc., you do not need to reserve a shelter space.

Accessibility information

  • During carpool arrangements, please let us know if you need to park on-site for accessibility.
  • There is a gender-neutral bathroom with showers on site.
  • There are two water taps on site.
  • Kanaskat-Palmer State Park is a 541-acre camping park on a low, forested plateau, with 2 miles of shoreline on the Green River.
  • Noise: The local fire station uses a siren to summon volunteer firefighters for duty. The siren may be activated at any hour of the day or night and can create noisy conditions for campers and visitors. Additionally, BNSF train tracks near the Park are a storage line, and while not used regularly, can emit train noise that may be disruptive to campers.
  • Most of the paths from tent sites into the main camp shelter area are gravel/rocky dirt. There is a grass lawn near the bathrooms/parking that isn't technically a tent site and is also exposed to the parking lot (the parking is for the site only but sometimes hikers wander through looking for a bathroom). The path from the parking lot to the main shelter is relatively wide/flat and mostly grass/dirt.
  • The path to the river/beach is narrow and steep with a partial staircase. The river access is a mix of rocky river bed and dirt.

COVID-19 Policy

Queer Scouts Seattle practices queer collective care protocol. These are our current plans for COVID safety based on our understanding of omicron transmission:

  • All campers must be fully vaccinated, including a bivalent booster. If you cannot get vaccinated for medical reasons, please tell us so we can help keep you safe at camp.
  • Campers will make/bring their own meals. We will have some shared snacks, but these are mostly pre-packaged/individual items.
  • Wear a N95 or similar mask when you are using the on-site bathrooms and when you are in close proximity to others. (You can unmask in the bathroom to brush your teeth, shower, etc.)
  • Since most of King County’s free PCR testing sites have been shut down, we recommend taking rapid tests for 2-3 days, 24 hours apart, before arrival.
  • Bring rapid tests to camp. QS will also provide some rapid tests.
  • Please cancel if you have a positive COVID test or are otherwise sick.
  • Contact tracing: please notify us if you test positive for COVID within 10 days after camp so we can notify other campers to get tested.

Payment info (sliding scale)

Tickets are pay-what-you-can. The suggested “full price” donation for one camper staying both nights is $25. For day passes, $5-10.

We are not taking payments through Eventbrite. Please make your payment through Paypal: @queerscoutsseattle

Please make your payment within two weeks of registering. This will serve to confirm your ticket. Please contact us if you need an alternative payment method.

Donations will be used to offset the cost of the campsite and to provide snacks.

Gear

We will send out a survey for gear sharing later. (For example, if you need a two-person tent, you can request one; if you have an extra tent, backpack, rain fly, etc., you can offer one.)

Community Standards

While we welcome allies at other events, camp is only for Scouts and their friends who are LGBTQIA2S+.

All campers must be 18 years or older.

Campers may bring their dogs if the dogs are quiet, used to being around other people and dogs, and used to camping.

To make this event more inclusive, we will not allow alcohol at camp. Medical marijuana may be used.

Day tickets and One-night tickets will go on sale in early June.
